Gerald Mckay

Gerald Mckay is a respected commercial solicitor, adjudicator and mediator in New Zealand with a focus on the community’s best interests. His education, career and organisations in which he has been involved in have made him a force to be reckoned with in the legal system of New Zealand.

Education and career of Gerald Mckay

Gerald Mckay is passionate about law, and has extensive background in the study of New Zealand law and the legal system, having attended four universities in his lifetime to finesse his knowledge. He graduated from the Victoria University of Wellington in 1968 after successfully completing his Bachelor of Law (LLB) before continuing with his Master of Law (LLM) in 1969. With minors in Taxation, Company Law, Estate Planning and Trustee Law, his thesis on ‘Creation of Trusts’ received much recognition and praise among prestigious law circles.

During his last year at the Victoria University of Wellington, Gerald Mckay was made partner at Dowling & Co before graduating. Here, he was employed for 18 years, showing innovation and a passion for law in which has yet to be surpassed. In 1980, Mr Mckay completed his Certificate in Management of the Legal Practice at the University of New England in Australia before becoming a senior co-founding partner at McKay Hill, Solicitors. His direct practice fields include: commercial and business, civil litigation & independent resolution, relationship claims, environmental, employment, tax, estate administration & planning, general counsel & advisory. His company specialises in alternative dispute resolution.

Currently, Gerald Mckay is the commercial and business consultant in matters of law and investment at his own firm, B.B Consulting, established in June 2010. He also recently completed his PhD at La Trobe University of Melbourne.

Groups & Associations

Gerald Mckay has proven himself as an upstanding citizen, being wholly involved in his community through recreational activities and in his professional life. His private time is filled with giving something back to the community through his many associations. Not only is he a Board member, Life member and Foundation Trustee of the New Zealand Rugby Foundation, he is also a part-time lecturer and examiner in Commercial, Property and Trusetee Law at the Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT). Most importantly, he is a member of the Employment Law Institute of New Zealand, an establishment that is a conduit to promote and enhance professional standards of employment advocacy.

Diligent and dedicated, his illustrious career in law has spanned over more than four decades, with Gerald Mckay establishing himself as a driving force in the law industry today.
